A new beginning: a school for the children of Abala Abaya
In 2024, a landslide struck the Kawo Koyisha and Bayra Koyisha districts in the Wolaita Region and the villages home to many of the children we support — destroying homes and upending the lives of over 5,400 people.
While local authorities are currently building 800 homes for the affected population, NGOs operating in the area have been called upon to respond to the emergency, with each organization contributing with infrastructures aligned with its own specific mission.
Busajo NGO answered this call by focusing on what we do best: ensuring the right to education.
The construction of a new school began in July, and the facility opened its doors in September, featuring four classrooms, fully equipped with furniture and fixtures crafted in our own vocational training workshops. The school serves as a vital hub for approximately 10,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries, providing many children with a space where to study, grow and dream of a future.
